How WageWorks Commuter Express Works

Simply tell your employer how much you’d like to contribute to your WageWorks ® Commuter Express account up to the allowed monthly limits, and place your commuter order online. Funds are withdrawn from your paycheck for deposit to your account before taxes are deducted. Easily change, pause, or cancel monthly contributions. There’s no “use it or lose it” as long as you’re enrolled in the program.

Using Your WageWorks Commuter Express Account
Use a variety of convenient payment methods and fulfillment options associated with your account.

Pay Your Provider

If your commuting expenses are consistent and predictable, schedule automated payments right from your account to load your transit card and pay parking providers at the start of each month. Simply access your account online to place your order and have eligible expenses paid directly from your account no receipts or claim forms required.

Pay You Back
If your commuting expenses are less predictable, pay them yourself and then get reimbursed for eligible expenses. Arrange for funds to be deposited directly to your checking account or for a check to be mailed to you.

Buy Your Pass
WageWorks purchases your transit pass using funds in your WageWorks Commuter account, and your pass is mailed directly to your home or office each month. Order your passes each month or schedule a recurring order.

Load Your SmartCard
Load money onto transit agency SmartCards (where available) directly from your WageWorks Commuter Express account.

Use Your WageWorks Commuter Card
Use the convenient WageWorks Commuter Card to pay for transit and parking. You decide how much money to load onto your card each month to cover your monthly commuting costs.

Managing Your WageWorks Commuter Express Account
Manage your account via a secure website on any computer or mobile device that’s connected to the Internet or via the WageWorks® EZ Receipts® mobile app. Use this handy app to snap a photo of receipts and instantly submit them for payment and check your WageWorks Commuter Express account balance – right from your mobile device.

Monthly Contribution Limits
The IRS has established the following maximum contribution limits:

  • $255 per month for transit and eligible vanpools
  • $255 per month for qualified parking

There's no "use it or lose it" policy with your WageWorks Commuter Express account. Available balances can be rolled over year to year. Keep in mind, though, that if you stop working for your employer, you lose access to the funds in your account.
