A WageWorks Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) is a great way to tap into free money that your employer sets aside for you to help you pay healthcare expenses.

With an HRA, your employer determines a certain amount of pre-tax dollars and sets those dollars aside for you in an account.

Once your account is active, you’re free to access funds in the account to pay for eligible healthcare expenses or get reimbursed for those you pay out-of-pocket. These funds are tax-free for you.

Using your WageWorks HRA is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Confirm how much how much your employer has contributed to your HRA and what healthcare-related expenses are covered.
  2. Access your HRA funds with a WageWorks® Healthcare Card; via direct, online payments; or reimburse yourself.
  3. Manage your HRA easily. You can keep tabs on your balance, check your claim status on line, and even scan and submit healthcare receipts right from your mobile devices.

  1. Note eligibility requirements. Spend your HRA funds on only those who are eligible. Typically that includes you, your spouse and your eligible dependents.
  2. Know which expenses are eligible. Generally, healthcare expenses include any services or products that are medically necessary to treat a specific condition. Please remember that eligible medical expenses may vary by employer. You can see the list of eligible expenses for your HRA plan by logging into your account.
  3. Keep your receipts. Save receipts that show exactly what you paid for and when – just like you would to deduct them on your taxes. See the Claim and Card Use Verification Checklist for helpful tips in filing claims.
  4. Know where to shop. If using a WageWorks® Healthcare Card, shop only at general merchandise stores or pharmacies that have an IRS-approved inventory system in place. See this list of approved merchants.
  5. Keep an eye on your account. Watch your online statements to see if you need to verify any card purchases with receipts.
  6. Register for an online account. When you register online and provide a current email address, you ensure that you will have 24/7 access to your account and funds. You’ll also receive important email updates, such as claims-status notifications. Register now for an account.
