A Commuter Transit Account lets you pay for qualified public transit expenses on a pre-tax basis. The money you contribute to your account is not subject to payroll taxes, so you end up paying less in taxes with more take-home pay from your check.

A Commuter Transit Account has a monthly limit. Simply decide how much to contribute to your Commuter Transit Account up to the allowed monthly limit. The IRS sets the contribution limits. You can contribute up to a maximum of $270 per month* to your Commuter Transit Account. A different limit may apply to you according to your employer’s plan.
Use this calculator to estimate your monthly eligible expenses and determine a monthly Commuter Transit Account election amount that’s right for you.
You can pause, change, or cancel contributions to your Commuter Transit account at any time, although there are deadlines for changes and cancellations for specific benefit months. There's no "use it or lose it" policy with your account unless you quit your job with money left in your account. Available balances can be rolled over year to year. But keep in mind that if you stop working for your employer, you forfeit any unused money left in your account.
