How Does It Work?

 Helping with the cost of adopting a child.

  • State Street will reimburse up to $20,000.00 per child to the employee for eligible Adoption expenses. 
  • The adopted child must be under the age of 18 on the date the adoption is finalized.
  • Reimbursement Requests must be submitted within 180 days from the date the adoption is finalized.
  • Employees must be active when reimbursement is made, when expenses are incurred and when reimbursement request is submitted and paid.
  • Employment status of paid/unpaid leave is eligible for this benefit
  • If the employee is adopting their spouse’s child (the employee’s stepchild), this is allowable under the policy, but is taxable.
  • If both adoptive parents are employed by State Street Corporation or one of its affiliated companies and are eligible for adoption assistance, the maximum benefit per adopted child is $20,000.00

Examples of eligible expenses include:

  • Private and Public agency fees
  • Placement fees
  • Required physical examinations of adoptive parents, if not covered by an employee health plan
  • Reasonable travel expenses incurred when completing the adoption
  • Home study fees
  • Cost of child’s medical expenses required to finalize the adoption

In general, you are eligible for Adoption Assistance if you are a regular active employee and are regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week.

Employees must be actively employed when the adoption becomes final, when expenses are incurred and at the time of the reimbursement.
