WageWorks Visa® Prepaid Commuter Card & Houston Metro Q Card Tutorial
Part 1: Obtain a Metro Q Card
You first need to obtain a Q Card card. You can get a Q Card card by:
Once you have obtained your Metro Q Card, you are ready to fund it using pre-tax funds with the WageWorks Commuter Card.
Part 2: Ordering, and funding, a WageWorks Commuter Card
The WageWorks Commuter card is a stored-valued card that works like a credit card at transit agency ticket vending machines and ticket windows. In this order path you will be using the Commuter Card as a personal Debit card, to load fares onto your Q Card.
Step 1: Log onto your account on www.wageworks.com
Step 2: Click on the "Enroll in Commuter" or "Place Commuter Order" link.
Step 3: Then "Commuter Transit."
Step 4: Finally select "Houston Metro" as the service provider.
Step 5: Select the “WageWorks Commuter Card” pass product.
Step 6: Select the amount you would like to have on your Commuter Card. To determine this amount, please identify how much you will need to fund your Q Card card to support your monthly commute needs.
Step 7: Confirm your contact information and submit your order.
Please note the Commuter Card funds load on the 20th of the month. The value will not be available until that date.
Part 3: Q Card Funding
Now that you have the WageWorks Commuter Card, with funds available on it, you need to decide how to you want to fund the Q Card. You have three main options:
Option 1: TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) – Located on all METRORail platforms.
Option 2: CVM (Credit Vending Machine) – Located at Park & Rides and select Transit Centers.
Option 3: Website – Manage the funds on your METRO Q card using RideMETRO.org. Call 713-635-4000 to get your password, then access the “My METRO Fare Card” page located here. You’ll be able to check your balance, sign up for a subscription payment service, or reload your METRO Q card.
