General Information

There are certain processes WageWorks can complete and certain processes that only Clipper can complete.

Clipper processes

  • Transfer funds
  • Issue replacement cards
  • Identify why your funds rejected
  • Identify where your funds are in the credit process.

WageWorks Processes

  • Fund your Clipper Card directly, or fund your a WageWorks Visa® Prepaid Commuter Card or a WageWorks MasterCard® Prepaid Commuter Card
  • Update your pending WageWorks election with a new card number. This must be completed by your Employer cutoff date.
  • Issue a credit to your WageWorks account, once it’s been received from Clipper.

Clipper Customer Service

There will be times that you will need to contact the Clipper Customer Service department to get assistance with certain aspects of the Clipper Card program. You may also be directed to Clipper, by WageWorks, in order to get key information. There are details regarding your card that only Clipper has access to.

The Clipper Customer Service Number is 1-877-878-8883.

Clipper Program Rules

The following program rules are set by the Clipper program.

  • The Direct Load participant fee
  • The $300 Clipper Card balance
  • The charge for Transfers and Replacements
  • The requirement to have $1.25 in e-cash in order to load Caltrain products

 

The WageWorks Commuter Prepaid MasterCard is issued by The Bancorp Bank, member FDIC, pursuant to license by MasterCard International Incorporated. Card can be used at qualified locations everywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted. Card cannot be used cash access or at ATMs.

The WageWorks Visa Prepaid Commuter Card is issued by The Bancorp Bank, member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc. Card can be used at qualified locations wherever Visa debit cards are accepted. Card cannot be used at any ATM or for cash access.

Order Timeline 

The timeline of events is as follows:

  1. You can log into your account at WageWorks. Select “Enroll in Commuter” then select “Transit." Finally select “Clipper” as the service provider. At the bottom of the page you will see “Don’t have a Clipper Card?” Click on that link for a PDF Clipper Card application. Follow the instructions to secure your card.
  2. If you’ve selected the a WageWorks Visa® Prepaid Commuter Card or a WageWorks MasterCard® Prepaid Commuter Card, your funds will load to your card by the 20th.
  3. Once your WageWorks Commuter Card has loaded you can fund your Clipper Card at any time.
  4. If you’ve ordered Direct Load your order will be placed and funded to your card by no later than the last day of that month.
  5. If your Direct Load order is rejected due to a blocked card or incorrect serial number, your credit will be processed by no later than the last day of that month.
  6. If your funds are unable to be loaded due to excessive card balance those funds will be held by Clipper until your card balance is low enough to load them.
