Your WageWorks® Healthcare Card is a convenient payment method tied to your WageWorks healthcare accounts - your FSA, HRA, and HSA. It works like a debit card.
But the IRS determines how the WageWorks Healthcare Card (Card) can be used and by whom.
Your Card is only for use at select pharmacies, healthcare providers, and general merchandise stores that have an industry standard Inventory Information Approval System (IIAS) inventory and checkout system. In most instances, Card transactions are automatically verified at checkout, which means you don’t have to submit a receipt to WageWorks after the transaction. However, you are required to keep each receipt in the event it is needed for later verification and for tax purposes.
Before shopping for prescriptions and over-the-counter items, always check this list of approved merchants that have an IRS-approved inventory system in place.
If you use the Card at a healthcare provider or at a pharmacy that does not have an IRS-approved inventory system, WageWorks will likely require that you submit a receipt or your health insurance explanation of benefits (EOB) to verify that the transaction was for an eligible healthcare good or service. Pay for Eligible Healthcare Expenses
Use your WageWorks® Healthcare Card for co-payments at the doctor or other healthcare provider, prescription medication at the pharmacy, and other healthcare products and services.

What is CUV?
A CUV is “Card Use Verification” which is the process of verifying that the card transaction was for an eligible expense.
Some doctors’ offices, hospitals, and dentists perform services which would be considered ineligible for certain accounts. Because the IRS requires us to obtain 100% verification of Healthcare Card transactions, we ask for itemized receipts for all transactions which we are not able to automatically approve. This is called Card Use Verification.
How does CUV work?
All Card purchases have to be verified within 90 days of the transaction date in accordance with IRS Regulations.
WageWorks will notify you if the transaction cannot be automatically verified and provide you with instructions for how to proceed. If you do not take action and the transaction remains unverified for 90 days, your Card may be suspended and the unverified amount will be deducted from all future reimbursement claims.
How do I complete the verification process?
There are three options for verifying your Card transactions.
Regardless of the method you choose your receipts or documentation will need to include the five key pieces of information.
Please note a credit card receipt typically will not work for verification as they usually do not include all five pieces of information.
Why did my WageWorks® Healthcare Card work if it needs verification?
Why am I being asked for receipts/documentation if I used my Card at a healthcare provider?

How can I find out what I need to verify?
If you have an email address on file with us, we will send you an email should you have Card transactions that need to be verified.
One email notification is sent for each Card transaction that requires action. Notification will be sent at least 5 but no later than 20 days after the transaction. You can also find a list of transactions by logging into your WageWorks account online. We will also send paper notices as needed.
How do I reduce or eliminate the need for documentation?
We will not ask for receipts when you shop at merchants and pharmacies that have an IRS-approved inventory system in place.
IIAS is the common acronym for the IRS-approved Inventory Information Approval System. IIAS was introduced in 2008 and enables merchants with an approved system to verify Card purchases right at the check-out counter. Since all stores (including pharmacies and drug stores) that sell general merchandise along with healthcare items must participate to accept the Card, it practically eliminates the need to submit receipts to verify the transaction after the purchase. You can find a list of IRS-approved merchants at www.sig-is.org. If we are unable to verify a transaction using the IIAS, we will ask you for receipts detailing the expense.
To reduce the amount of receipts needed try to purchase Over-the-Counter (OTC) and prescription items at merchants, drug stores or pharmacies that have an IRS-approved inventory system in place.

I have a valid email address on my account, when can I expect an email notification regarding Card Use Verification?
WageWorks sends an email notification for each transaction that requires verification. Please note, if you have multiple unverified transactions, you will receive multiple notifications. After 90 days, if you have not verified your transaction, your Card may be suspended. You will be sent a notification that your Card is suspended. The Card will remain suspended until the transactions have been verified. Once WageWorks receives your verification, it will take 1-2 business days to process your receipts and another 1-2 business days to reinstate your Card.
What if I didn't keep my receipt or lost it? How can I resolve the transaction?
Not Always, But There Are Rules
While your WageWorks® Healthcare Card offers you great convenience, it is regulated by IRS rules that you must follow.
All WageWorks® Healthcare Card purchases must be verified within 90 days of the transaction date.

Your WageWorks® Healthcare Card is very smart.
You’ll know when a Card transaction needs to be verified. WageWorks will notify you of any Card transactions that require attention when you log into your WageWorks account.
Your WageWorks Healthcare Card works like a smart debit card to pay for eligible healthcare expenses from the right account at the right time. Your smart Healthcare Card knows exactly which account to pull from - your HSA, FSA, or HRA - and allows you to pay directly from your account . For example, your Card will always pull funds from your FSA first. Why? Since your FSA funds do not roll over year to year, you want to be sure to spend them first, and your Card knows that. Once your FSA funds have been used your Card will know to pull either your HRA or HSA, depending on which account you have.
