General Information

The New Jersey Transit Corporation is a public transportation system serving New Jersey; along with portions of New York, Orange, and Rockland counties in New York State; and Philadelphia County in Pennsylvania. It operates bus, light rail, and commuter rail services throughout the state, notably connecting to major commercial and employment centers both within the state and in the adjacent major cities of New York and Philadelphia.

  • NJ Transit Monthly Passes may be returned to WageWorks for credit only if they are received by WageWorks by the 5th of the benefit months.  Please note: NJT will not accept direct returns from WageWorks participants.  WageWorks does not provide refunds on WageWorks issued 10-Trips.
  • If purchased using the WageWorks Mastercard® Prepaid Commuter Card or WageWorks Visa® Prepaid Commuter Card; monthly passes and 10-Trips may be refunded by following the instructions here
  • NJ Transit does allow for split transactions at the ticket window with a few important restrictions.  If there are not enough funds on your WageWorks Commuter Card to cover the full cost of the pass, you may use a secondary form of payment at these select locations.
  • NJ Transit offers a mobile app that allows riders to use mobile ticketing, plan trips, receive train schedules and offers many other features.  Additional info may be found here.
  • The WageWorks Commuter Card is compatible with the NJ Transit Quik-Tik program.  The Quik-Tik program allows participants to receive their tickets, by mail, directly from NJ Transit.  More info is available here
  • If you ordered a NJ Transit pass directly through WageWorks and have not received it by the 1st of the benefit month, please call our customer service department at (877) 924-3967.  They will be happy to provide you with instruction.

The WageWorks Commuter Prepaid MasterCard is issued by The Bancorp Bank, member FDIC, pursuant to license by MasterCard International Incorporated. Card can be used at qualified locations everywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted. Card cannot be used cash access or at ATMs.

The WageWorks Visa Prepaid Commuter Card is issued by The Bancorp Bank, member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc. Card can be used at qualified locations wherever Visa debit cards are accepted. Card cannot be used at any ATM or for cash access.

Order Timeline 

The timeline of events is as follows:

  1. You can log into your account at WageWorks. Select “Enroll in Commuter” then select “Transit." Finally select “NJ Transit Light Rail”, “NJ Transit Bus” or “NJ Transit Rail” as the service provider.

  2. If you’ve selected the WageWorks Mastercard® Prepaid Commuter Card or WageWorks Visa® Prepaid Commuter Card, your funds will load to your card by the 20th of the month.

  3. Once your WageWorks Commuter Card has loaded you can purchase your NJ Transit product at a Ticket Vending Machine at any time.

  4. If you’ve ordered a NJ Transit pass to be sent to you by WageWorks, you will receive it before the 1st of the benefit month.
