What is a WageWorks Commuter Card?
The WageWorks® Commuter Card is like a pre-paid debit card. It’s the quick and easy way to pay for qualified public transit and parking expenses from your WageWorks Commuter Transit Account. Use it at transit agency ticket vending machines, ticket windows, and transit agency ordering websites.
You can use your pre-tax dollars to fund your card (up to $265 for transit and up to $265 for parking, or both). You may have your card reloaded from your account automatically on the 20th of the month prior to each benefit month (for example, on June 20 for your July benefit month). Or you can manually reload your card from your account. If you choose to reload your card manually, you need to do so before the 10th of the month prior to your benefit month.

How do I use my WageWorks Commuter Card?
You use your WageWorks Commuter Card just like you use a debit card—just swipe and go. Use it at transit agency ticket vending machines, ticket windows, and transit agency ordering websites. If you have to choose between a debit or credit option when using your card at a ticket vending machine, choose “credit.” If you choose “debit,” you’ll be asked for a personal identification number (PIN), and your Commuter Card doesn’t have a PIN.
If you’d like to add an optional PIN to your Commuter Card, please call WageWorks Customer Service at 1-877-924-3967. You can then use your card as you would use a debit card at participating merchants by selecting the “debit” payment option and entering your PIN. Please note that you can’t use your Commuter Card at ATMs or to receive cash back at merchants.

When will my WageWorks Commuter Card be reloaded?
Your WageWorks® Commuter Card will reload automatically on the 20th of the month prior to each benefit month (for example, on June 20 for your July benefit month). The funds for "reloading" are the pre-tax (and sometimes additional post-tax) dollars you determine to be transferred from your paycheck into your WageWorks account.

What happens to the funds on my WageWorks Commuter Card if I leave my job/employer?
You have ninety (90) days from your termination date to use your card to access the transit funds remaining in your account. After 90 days, you forfeit any pre-tax funds left in your transit account when you leave your employer, although you are refunded any remaining post-tax funds at the end of the ninety (90) day period. If you think a change may be coming, the best thing to do is log into your log into your WageWorks account and adjust your elections as soon as possible.
Note: Commuter Credits are pre-tax funds that were not used for an intended benefit month. Credits can be a result of an unused returned pass to the transit agency, an unclaimed Pay Me Back expense, or the unused balance from a previous commuter program. Under this commuter benefit, commuter credits are used to offset future pre-tax deductions. Since the participant cannot place any more orders due to their departure from the company, commuter credits are forfeited to the employer. -
Is WageWorks Commuter Card a credit card?
Nope. The WageWorks® Commuter Card is a VISA/MasterCard stored-value card for use at transit locations and valid merchants. There is no line of credit available on your Commuter Card, and your personal credit is unaffected by the use of the card. Only the funds you elect to put on the card are available for use; this is why we describe the WageWorks Commuter Card as a “pre-paid debit card.”

How do I check the balance on my WageWorks Commuter Card?
There are three ways to check the balance on your card:
- Log into your WageWorks account to check your account balance.
- Log into your WageWorks account via the WageWorks EZ Receipts® mobile app and check your account balance.
- Call WageWorks Customer Service 1-877-924-3967. Provide the last four digits of WageWorks Commuter card number and your home zip code to receive your account and card balances.

What happens if funds aren't loaded to my Commuter Parking Card on time?
Here’s what you can do. Log into your WageWorks account to confirm you elected to contribute to your Commuter Parking Account for the time period you expected your card to be loaded. The monthly election should be available on your card by the first day of the benefit month. Please note that the maximum amount you may elect to contribute to your account (and therefore the maximum amount you have available on your card) is $250 per month.

Do I lose my money in my Commuter Parking Account if I leave my employer?
Sorry, there is no “spend down” period for your Commuter Parking Account. If you leave your employer, you forfeit any pre-tax funds left in your account, although you are refunded any remaining post-tax funds. If you think a change may be coming, the best thing to do is log into your WageWorks account and adjust your elections as soon as possible.

What should I do if my Card wasn't loaded as it should have been?
It depends on the type of Commuter Transit benefit program your employer has selected. Please contact your employer to confirm the type of program your company has in place.
If your employer has the Commuter Order Model or the Commuter Express benefit program, funds are available on your WageWorks Commuter Card by the 20th of the month prior to the benefit month.
If your employer has the Commuter Account Model, funds are available on your WageWorks Commuter Card within forty-eight (48) hours after WageWorks has received notification from your employer that payroll deductions have been made.
For all types of Commuter Transit benefit programs, Log into your WageWorks account to confirm that you made an election for the applicable benefit month.

Will my WageWorks Commuter Card still work if I leave my employer?
If your employer has the Commuter Account Model or Commuter Express benefit program, any scheduled recurring order will be cancelled on the date of your termination or the date that WageWorks receives your termination date from your employer—whichever date is later. If you have unused funds in your account, you may submit new ordering instructions, and you have ninety (90) days from the date of termination of your employment to use the funds in your account for eligible expenses. Any unused pre-tax funds will be forfeited to your employer, and any post-tax funds will be refunded to you at the end of the ninety (90)-day period.
